The Fear of the Lord

Friends and family, The following verses are just a small sampling of the MANY verses in the Word of God that tell us to “FEAR THE LORD.”

I’m not going to attempt to explain these verses, I’ll just let God’s Word speak for Itself.

“And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it  is this day.” Deuteronomy 6:24

“And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ” Job 28:28

“The fear of the Lord  is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord  are true and righteous altogether.” Psalms 19:9

“Let all the earth fear the Lord ; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.” Psalms 33:8

“The fear of the Lord  is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His  commandments. His praise endures forever.” Psalms 111:10

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:7

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.” Proverbs 8:13

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:27

“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.” Proverbs 22:4

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.” Ecclesiastes 12:13

“Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.”           Acts 9:31

” “Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.”   Acts 13:26

“Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth— to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people— saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”” Revelation 14:6‭-‬7

Don’t you think it’s a good idea to heed this advice???

What does the word REPENT mean?

Actually,  the Greek word is metanoia. Let’s break that down…

The prefix “Meta” means “to change” and that is where we get our English word “metamorphosis” (to change from a Chrysalis to a butterfly.)

The suffix “noia” means “mind.” This is where our English word “paranoia” comes from. (That means to have a “fear of the mind.”)

So putting the two syllables meta-noia together,  we get “change of mind.”
So repentance means to change your mind.
Here’s a compilation of verses on REPENTANCE:

(This passage doesn’t actually say the word “repent” but the concept of turning away from our sins is definitely there.) Isaiah 55:6-7 “Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord , And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.”

Ezekiel 14:6 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Repent, turn away from your idols, turn your faces away from all your abominations.”

Mark 1:4 “John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [metanoia] for the remission of sins.”

Mark 1:15  (This is Jesus speaking) “and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and  kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, [to change ones mind and purpose] and believe in the gospel.””
Mark 2:17 “When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Luke 24:46-47 “Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

Acts 5:31 “Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.”

Acts 11:18 “When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.””

Acts 20:20-21 “….how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 2:4 “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”

2 Corinthians 7:10 “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”

2 Timothy 2:25 “in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,”

Hebrews 6:1 “Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,…” Repentance is the “foundation,” which is always laid down first. The writer of Hebrews was telling us that our dead works needed to be repented of.

2 Peter 3:9  “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,”

1 Thessalonians 1:9 “For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”  In this verse, the word “Repent” isn’t there, but the concept definitely is.

The Word of God is…

“…For Your word has given me life.” Psalms 119:50

“Forever, O Lord , Your word is settled in heaven.”  Psalms 119:89

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105

“Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalms 119:133

“Your word is very pure; Therefore Your servant loves it.” Psalms 119:140

” “ Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord , “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”  Jeremiah 23:29

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God….. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”    John 1:1‭, ‬14

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 3:16‭-‬17

“And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as  they  were moved by the Holy Spirit.”  II Peter 1:19‭-‬21
This is only a portion of what the Word of God is. My friend,  do you ever read it?

Jesus said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4

In John 4, Jesus compared Himself to Living Water.

In John 6:35, He said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

My dear friends, we eat physical food multiple times every single day!  Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts. If we went any length of time without food, we wouldn’t be very healthy. The same is true in the spiritual realm.

How much more do we need Spiritual food that will make us wise for salvation?

Please read the Bible daily!  You won’t regret it.

Be Thankful to God

“Make a joyful shout to the Lord , all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord , He is God; It  is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We  are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord  is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.”  Psalms 100:1-5

“Oh, give thanks to the Lord ! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!”   Psalms 105:1

”Praise the Lord ! Oh, give thanks to the Lord , for He  is good! For His mercy endures forever.”  Psalms 106:1

“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.”  Eph 5:18‭-‬21
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”  Colossians 3:17
“…pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thess. 5:17‭-‬18

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”   Hebrews 13:15

What is Truth?

In John 18:38, a man named Pilate once rhetorically asked Jesus that question. “What is truth?” I will attempt to define it for us from different sources.

The dictionary defines it as, “The quality or state of being true. That which is true in accordance with fact or reality. The opposite of a lie.”

The following is from my Bible dictionary app on my phone:
“Truth: Used in various senses in Scripture. In Pro 12:17, Pro 12:19, it denotes that which is opposed to falsehood. In Isa 59:14, Isa 59:15, Jer 7:28, it means fidelity or truthfulness. The doctrine of Christ is called “the truth of the gospel” (Gal 2:5), “the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7; 2 Timothy 4:4). Our Lord says of himself, “I am the way, and the truth…” (John 14:6).”

“For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth.”
Psalms 33:4

“The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness.” Psalms 111:7-8

“….They shall be My people And I will be their God, In truth and righteousness.’ ” Zechariah 8:8

“But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?”
John 8:45-46

“And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth…”
Matthew 22:16

“Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?”
Galatians 4:16

“Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth.” Psalms 119:142

“You are near, O Lord , And all Your commandments are truth.”
Psalms 119:151

“The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”
Psalms 119:160

“But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth…” Daniel 10:21

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” I Thess. 2:13

The Apostle Paul understood that his own words were the Word of God in truth.

“…because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;” Colossians 1:5-6

“And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord , the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty…” Exodus 34:6-7

“He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.”
Deut. 32:4

“… You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.” Psalms 31:5

“But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.”
Jeremiah 10:10

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ”
John 14:6

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
I John 5:20

“For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” Psalms 100:5

“For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord!”
Psalms 117:2

“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
Numbers 23:19

“…so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.”
Hebrews 6:18

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:32

With all of this truth going on, what have you got to lose (other than your sin), by trusting in Jesus Christ?

My Testimony

My name is Bridget, and I’m the wife of Gary, the mom of Brianna and Amanda, and the sister of Michelle. The most important relationship that I have is that I’m the daughter of the King of kings, and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, who is God in the flesh.

When I was 12, I was told that if I said a prayer and “asked Jesus into my heart,” by saying this little “sinner’s prayer” I would be saved. I erroneously believed that I was actually Saved for most of my adult life.
When I was 17, my mom was killed in a car accident and from then on, I really didn’t go to church much. (Once in awhile with my grandma, but that was rare.) Shortly after that, I met my future husband, but we lived together in a fornicating relationship before we got married.
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Cor. 6:9-11
After we got married, we had our first daughter Brianna, so I thought I would start going back to church, but since Gary was Jewish, he didn’t want to go with us.
It was a very liberal church though, so I didn’t feel much conviction throughout my sinful lifestyle! I had told MANY lies, stolen things, taken God’s Name in vain all the time. (Not to mention fornicating with my future husband before we got married!) Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” I did this all the time! The Bible says that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).
Then, when I was 34, and expecting my second child, I started thinking more about God even though at this point in my life I rarely read my Bible or prayed, or even felt the slightest bit of repentance for my sins. I was just your average church goer, but it didn’t mean anything to me.
Matthew 7:16-18 says “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”
I was bearing SO MUCH bad fruit at that point of my life, there was NO WAY that I could have been a “good tree” (saved) when I was 12!

When I was 36, I went to a “Women’s Retreat” and that’s when I re-dedicated my life back to God. (Or so I thought!)

When God had finally granted me repentance of my sins, I had this insatiable desire to read the pure milk of the Word (the Bible) as much as I could! As I was reading the Bible and praying to God for the first time on a daily basis, I started to realize that God was REAL, and that He actually “speaks” to us!!! The first time that happened to me, I was AMAZED!!! I knew for the first time that God had forgiven me of my sins because of what Christ had done for me on the Cross. I deserved the death penalty because I had broken God’s Laws the 10 Commandments! (See Exodus 20) But Jesus loved me so much that He paid my fine in His Life’s Blood! Jesus took the wrath of God the Father upon Himself so that I wouldn’t have to. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28
I had never “heard” God’s Voice before that time. I was ECSTATIC that the God of the universe was actually speaking to me!!! He answered MANY prayers in very specific ways. I realized that there are no such thing as coincidences. I now have an actual relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I speak to Him in prayer, and He “speaks” back to me through His Word, the Holy Bible! “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3
About a year or so after the Woman’s Retreat, I found Ray Comfort’s Ministry Living Waters/Way of the Master, and listened to his messages “Hell’s Best Kept Secret” and “True and False Conversion.” It was then that I realized that my “re-dedication” at the Woman’s Retreat was actually my first REAL Conversion. If you are a Christian, I would encourge you to listen to those messages by clicking here:

Hell’s Best Kept Secret:

True and False Conversion:

Now I am repentant of my sins and SOUNDLY SAVED! Asking Jesus into my heart, I had been a classic “False Convert!” I’m so grateful to God for showing me the TRUTH! Thank You Lord!
“And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15

In other words, He died for us, so we should live for Him, rather than ourselves! Are you living for yourself? Or for Jesus Christ?
